The Fiji Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Services will be replacing biomedical equipment in the near future.

Acting Head Jeremaia Kalo says work on a five-year replacement plan is currently being developed and once this is approved, equipment needing replacement will be done accordingly.

Kalo adds this is to improve the standard of service provided by the Health Ministry.

He states they have two technical teams in place for the evaluation of biomedical equipment before it is purchased to ensure the right specification is outlined.

“At the same time, we are exploring the market in terms of the latest technology but all this information in terms of selecting will be done by the technical team. In terms of the information being gathered through the market research together will be aligned with whatever process that we have.”

Kalo says the FPBS also has specialized people within the Ministry to help in the evaluation of the equipment before it is purchased.

The FPBS has also put in place a Standard Operating Procedures for all officers to follow while purchasing equipment to ensure all purchase documents are filed for transparency.
