Health Ministry to recruit Overseas Doctors

The Civil Service Ministry is looking at the possibility to recruit Doctors from overseas in an attempt to address the shortage of Doctors in the country.

Permanent Secretary for Civil Service Bernadette Welch says they’re looking at different ways to meet the expectation of patients.

Welch says shortage of doctors is a global issue.

“But we are running across global medical shortages, so we have to come up with some innovative ways of attracting Doctors into Fiji and we are looking at a number of other ways to get them here like signing of MOU with Universities or various other countries.”

Health Minister Rosy Akbar says the shortage is a reality for the country and they are working closely with the Civil Service Ministry to address this problem.
