Health Ministry concerned on dental health in Lau

The Health team which visited schools on the different islands of Lau discovered that there has been poor dental health.

A survey conducted in 2004 discovered that 86 percent of children below the age of six have tooth decay.

Spokesperson Peni Namotu says while visiting the various villagers in Lau an alarming number of children were treated on tooth decay.

“Tooth decay has been prevalent through the islands. We have advised parents to supervise their children on the use of tooth paste and tooth brush. Also its very important for parents to encourage children to eat the right healthy foods to maintain a healthy gum line.”

Namotu adds that parents should also cut down on the number of sweets consumed by their children in order t avoid tooth decay.
