Health Ministry calls for support for breastfeeding mothers

August 3, 2015 5:04 am

Health Adviser Dr Tar McCaig says one reason children are forced to leave breastfeeding at an early stage is because mothers have to return to work, after their maternity leave.

McCaig says mothers should have their right to breastfeed at work.

‘’In order for the mothers to continue breastfeeding at work, it would be nice for employers to support them by providing places at the work place, any space to let this mother’s breastfeed their babies and even to express their milk’’.

McCaig made the comments at the launch of National Breastfeeding Week which started today.

It is recommended that infants be exclusively breastfed for the first six months of life.
