Green Technologies to be introduce

The Waterways and Environment Ministry is currently implementing a program on an integrated approach using green technologies for riverbank stabilization, coastal and environmental protection.

Riverbank erosion is becoming prevalent in Fiji, threatening communities and livelihoods of people and with unsustainable land management activities this has led to increasing erosion of lands along the river bank.

This is an internationally proven methodology to deal with riverbank destabilization and related environmental concerns.

The Ministry has also considered using the grass system to stabilize riverbanks and reduce soil erosion.

The Ministry will commence the River Bank Protection Program through a pilot project in Tailevu and Nawaka, Nadi.
