The issue of abuse of workers at the Grand Pacific Hotel could have been solved earlier if the relevant authorities addressed it.

This was highlighted before the Standing Committee on Economic Affairs while hearing about the Petition on abuse of workers at GPH.

Committee member, Prem Singh questioned what effective action was taken by the Employment minister.

“You’re department did not do the right thing. They did not act on the complaint by the union and the individual complains.”

Also pointed out was that a petition to parliament is the last option for any citizen and this petition suggests the people of Fiji have lost hope in the system.

Employment Ministry, Permanent Secretary, Vilimone Baledrokadroka says the issue has been put to rest.

“The matter was finally resolve, the management was terminated and we now have a new in place.”

The number of grievances against GPH has reduced drastically over the past year and this strongly attributed to the new management.
