The government’s top priority is to restore buildings and services that will benefit all Fijians.

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama highlighted this when asked by Opposition MP Mosese Bulitavu on why the government won’t assist in rebuilding churches and village halls damaged by TC Winston.

Bainimarama says they’re focused on restoring roads, schools, jetties and hospitals right now.

‘’With our limited resources these are the areas where our assistance must be targeted. MD what would the Opposition prefer? That while many thousands of Fijians do not have roofs over their heads government should spend its time and money rebuilding every place of worship in Fiji. Madam we haven’t heard that relief money dispersed through the FNPF has been given by some Fijians to their churches and donations’’.

Bainimarama says village halls and churches are more capable to finance their own repairs then the many distraught families who have no homes.

The Prime Minister says they’re working to restore the lives of every Fijian affected by TC Winston regardless of the religion they practice.

Bainimarama says communities should be responsible for rebuilding their places of worship and village halls.
