November 27, 2014 12:19 am

The Government side of Parliament says it does not recognize Biman Prasad as the chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee.

Government Whip and PAC member Semi Koroilavesau says only the first sitting of the committee can determine the chairperson.

“Basically the whole issue that stands at the moment is the chairmanship, we will be able to sit down once we agree to come to a meeting and than appoint a chairman during that meeting’’.

Earlier this week, the Speaker of the House Dr. Jiko Luveni called on PAC members to sort out their differences and convene as meeting.

Koroilavesau says they are simply following the parliamentary procedures in place.

“As per the standing orders, the chair will be appointed during our first meeting, hopefully soon within the next two days’’.

According to the Standing Orders the chairperson can only come from the opposition.

Prasad could not be contacted for a comment.
