The government is currently working with various international organizations, World Bank and International Finance Corporation on how they can fast-track the delivery of stockpile of homes.

Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says this is to help Fijians own their own homes.

“To ensure the stockpile of homes that are available to ordinary Fijians actually increases. That includes both rental space and also, in general, the ownership space. But the reality is that the rate of home ownership in Fiji is low.”

Sayed-Khaiyum says when people own their own homes, they will no longer go to moneylenders as they have security which they can pass on to their children.
