The current location for Pacific Fishing Company Limited commonly known as PAFCO is not sustainable.

The comment was made by Opposition MP Pio Tikoduadua while speaking in Parliament today.

Tikoduadua claims that PAFCO has been struggling for some time but it’s important for Fijians living in Levuka that the factory stays there.

“I know its dying in Levuka but we have to keep it in Levuka. It essential for the economy of Levuka, for the people of Ovalau as more than 400 ladies get employed in that factory.”

Public Enterprises Minister, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says despite these issues the government will continue to support the company.

“To keep PAFCO is Ovalau is not actually the best place to be but we as the government will support it to be there.”

Sayed-Khaiyum says the government has provided funding to the company in terms of ice plants capacity to access electricity.
