Government will continue to encourage private sector participation

The government says it has been and will continue to encourage more private sector participation in the divestment space.

Speaking at the privatisation of the Government Printery in Suva last week, Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says there are plans to diverse other companies in the near future.

Sayed-Khaiyum says Fiji can expect more divestment opportunities adding this will be a good chance to engage with the private sector.

“We are currently working on a number of entities and we will be placing a bid including entities like Energy Fiji Limited. So we urge the board to look at it and place themselves further which will give a wonderful opportunity for shareholders to get dividends.”

Meanwhile, Fijian Holdings Group chief executive Nouzab Fareed says they have attained full ownership of the Government Printery but this is just the start.

We want certain other government business. So we are still negotiating whether they will sell or not but we are very keen to move forward. So we are keen on Energy Fiji Limited and other government ventures which the government wants to divest.

The Attorney-General says divesting government businesses will also assist shareholders attain dividends from their shares.
