Government wants more educational programs

The Government wants to see more educational programmes and local content with additional channels coming online via digital TV services from today.

Trials have begun between the Nausori to Lami corridor with Fiji Broadcasting Corporation and Fiji TV running two channels each.

Communications minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says this is the perfect opportunity to push for a more knowledgeable Fiji.

“We want to see more educational types programs too, not necessarily the formal education can be part of it but also in education in terms of climate change in respect with the Agricultural sector”

Sayed-Khaiyum says the new digital television platform will not only give viewers a variety of channels but it will also boost public service broadcasting.

Digital TV coverage to the North and West is expected by the end of the year.
