The government vessel MLC Vunilawa is on a 42 day operation carting water to the affected coastal communities and maritime islands in the Northern Division.
The vessel has a capacity to hold close to 300,000 litres of water and is currently refilling in Lautoka for the next phase of carting.
After refilling from Lautoka, the MLC Vunilawa will be transporting water to the coastal villages in Namuka, Macuata right to Taveuni.
According to the Commissioner Northern’s Office, the vessel was carting water to all the outer islands in Bua right up to Cikobia last week.
These includes Yadua, Yaqaga, Galoa and Navatu.
This week, villages on the islands of Kia and Mali including the schools and nursing stations were supplied water.
The water is expected to last the villagers up to a fortnight and some for a month.
