The Assistant Minister for Youth and Sports Iliesa Delana says young people need to know that the government values them and it is working hard to provide them a great future.
Delana told Parliament yesterday that if the young people are secure, Fiji will be secured in the years to come.
He has visited 500 youth clubs and met thousands of young people since taking up office one year ago.
Delana says his meetings have helped him better understand the difficulties young people face.
“_We will continue to reach out to many more youth in the future. The visit has helped us to re-evaluate our programs. The Ministry of Youth and Sports has taken up a very challenging role empower and steer Fiji’s young people towards the future of sustainable development. This task is a mammoth one.”_
Delana says young people make up thirty eight percent of the total population and they have contributed significantly towards the development of the nation.
Two thousand five hundred youth clubs are registered with the ministry.
