Government tries to boost sugar Industry

In a bid to boost Fiji’s sugar industry, Government has topped up the fourth cane payment by twenty three million dollars

Permanent Secretary for Sugar, Yogesh Karan says every farmer will benefit as per the tonnes of cane they supply

Karan says the main purpose for this was to revive the sugar industry whereby, a farmer will be getting fifteen dollars and fourteen cents per tonne

“This payment is a boost that the government has made, allocation of 10 plus million dollars will certainly help the industry and will help and help the farmers prepare well for this new harvest season.”

He is urging farmers to use this payment wisely and prepare for the coming season.

Meanwhile, the final cane payment known as the “Washout Payment” will be made in October
