In order to ensure more businesses have EFTPOS machines, government will be paying 50 percent of the cost to buy these machines for small businesses.
Economy Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says by doing this government will ensure that electronic transaction is easier and affordable for Fijians.
“We want more Fijian businesses to offer electronic transactions to more Fijians as that is the foundational part of creating a more financial inclusive society, it also means we have a buoyant level of liquidity in the market.”
Meanwhile, an initiative has been announced in the 2018/2019 national budget whereby Fijians can swipe their debit or credit cards without any fees.
Sayed-Khaiyum says in this digital era, no Fijian should think twice about the cost of swiping their debit or credit card.
