There will be an increased allocation for the development of itaukei land if the need arises.
This was revealed in parliament by Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum after a motion was brought forward by Opposition Members to increase allocation to meet the demand of Itaukei Landowners.
Sayed-Khaiyum says ten million dollars has been allocated for the development of Itaukei Land for commercial purposes and alternatives are also being looked at.
“We recognized the fact that once the momentum as these ten million dollars allocation picks some speed we will make the necessary adjustments to increase it and we must, I met honorable Bulitavu and talked to him about that in Macuata there needs to be more development.”
However, Opposition MP Josefa Dulakiverata claims that processes of accessing this grant are unfairly regulated.
Sayed-Khaiyum says this is not true as the fund is allocated directly to assist Itaukei landowners.
