Cruise tourism is seen as the new area of growth for Fiji.
Speaking at the Pacific Cruise Tourism Development Strategy, Permanent Secretary for Tourism Shaheen Ali says the impact of cruise tourism in Fiji is increasing.
Although still a small part of the total visitor numbers, Ali says cruise tourism has seen a twelve point four percent increase in the first half of this year.
‘’Therefore there is a need to take advantage of the potential that exists in the cruise sector, and the pacific cruise development strategy will assist in the development of cruise tourism strategies and enable governments, donors and development partners to implement appropriate strategies and policies to encourage further growth in cruise tourism’’.
Shaheen Ali says this workshop will come up with tailor made solutions to develop Cruise Tourism over the next four years.
The workshop will look at issues hindering the growth of cruise tourism and map the way forward.
