April 2, 2012 9:03 pm

Government teams are now prepared to be deployed to the affected areas to assess the damages of flooding over the past days.

DISMAC director Pajiliai Dobui says these teams will also be distributing food rations to those areas while making their rounds.

“As we speak teams are being organised by the Ministry of Provincial development and the Public Service Commission to have stand-by teams with vehicles to assist with the task at hand. Also food rations will be distributed to those affected areas.”

Dobui says they have also made arrangements for teams to conduct an aerial survey today funded by AusAID.

“We have also organised teams to make aerial assessments which will happen today. As of yesterday we had dispatched two boats, one in Lautoka and one to take water to the western division today also taking long pipes to assist with the distribution of water.”

Dobui adds Fiji had previously signed an agreement with France, Australia and New Zealand for their assistance in times of natural disaster.
