Government spends million on relief assistance

Government spends millions of dollars in disaster relief programs in the aftermath of floods.

Minister for National Disaster Management Inia Seruiratu says this is an area they will focus on.

He adds that to effectively mitigate flood damage, the Ministry has embarked on land drainage and flood protection programs.

“Activities involved in this initiative include the dredging and bank protection works of rivers in Viti LKEvu and this will continue in full force. The dredging and bank protection works in Vanua Levu will continue as well. cponstruction of engineering infrastructures related to water shed management will also continue. The value of subsistence production continues to achieve the value of imported food.”

Seruiratu says this will be one of the main core areas of the Ministry to look at and improve on.
