Government Shipping Services gets a new home

June 1, 2018 5:05 am

The Department of Government Shipping Services officially received a new home yesterday with a newly constructed office and warehouse building.

The Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama was on hand to open the premises yesterday – which is an upgrade to the previous structure built in 1982 and had deteriorated to a state where equipment and cargo could not be safely stored.

The new warehouse will be particularly useful for those Fijians from the islands that wish to store some of their items and vice-versa.

“At a total cost of $3.6 million, this new facility is evidence of my continued commitment to investing in Fiji’s infrastructure, and to markedly improving the workplace conditions of all Government employees.”

The PM added that the new facility will be a more conducive environment to enable the staff to improve the services on offer.

Meanwhile, the new premises were in addition to the commissioning of the Fiji’s first Hospital Ship, the Veivueti, a 46 metre landing craft that was specifically designed and built to provide both primary and secondary medical services and rapid response to emergencies.
