Government on Monasavu Saga

November 26, 2012 12:18 am

The Prime Minister’s Office says there’ll be investigations into claims by Monasavu landowners that they haven’t been fairly compensated for the construction of the Monasavu Dam and the Wailoa Pumping station.

FBC News first brought the issue to light and after months of following it, the Permanent Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office decided to call a meeting with the landowners a week ago.

Tikoduadua said he met with representatives from the seven clans or yavusa that own land where the dam and the Pumping station are located.

He said the Prime Minister’s Office is anxious to find out more about the claims raised by the landowners.

“No one is taking any responsibility as yet about anything at all, there are a lot of investigations to be done, and there is a lot of information to be gathered.”

Tikoduadua said a government delegation will visit Monasavu soon to meet the landowners.
