Government is committed to assisting both millers and the cane growers in moving the sugar industry forward.

Speaking at a press conference in Lautoka this morning the Permanent Secretary for Sugar Manasa Vaniqi says government has already poured millions of dollars into the sugar industry over the last three years.

According to Vaniqi the pre-crush trials carried out over the past weeks have been successful and the 2012 crushing season is expected to be smooth with minimum down time.

With the Lautoka mill to start the crushing season from next Tuesday – Vaniqi is urging all cane cutters and harvesting gangs to be in full operation so that can supply to the mill is consistent.

Government plans to produce over 4million tones of cane per season.
