Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says there was a backlog of compensation claims in the past years.

Speaking in parliament last night, Sayed-Khaiyum reveals that the Bainimarama Government looked into the issue and was able to clear thousands of pending cases.

“The Honorable Prime Minister intervened and we bought in a medical doctor from the RFMF and we brought in project officers from the RFMF to clear literally thousands and thousands of cases that were languishing for the past five, six, seven and eight years.”

The AG also highlighted the role of the Accident Compensation Commission to MPs, revealing that people don’t have to go through a court system anymore.

“The court system has been taken out of the equation. We now have direct claims been made to the ACCF and of course it’s called a no fault situation.”

He adds that a few cases still remain pending and the ACCF will handle such reports.
