The Maritime Safety Authority has confirmed that it will approve individual vessels belonging to Goundar Shipping.

This is because each one comes into compliance.

The vessels were detained on Monday after Goundar Shipping failed to meet the requirements under the Safe Ships Management Regulation 2014.

MSAF Acting CEO, Captain Phillip Hill says this was the arrangement proposed to Goundar shipping Limited when they requested the release of their vessels.

“They have asked if they could be released from detention, unfortunately, we cannot release them from detention. We have asked them kindly to work on their documents, what we have also advised them is that we can approve individual ships as they comply.”

Meanwhile, Captain Hill has highlighted that Briton Shipping which was the only other company that was non-complaint has met the requirements under the Safe Ships Management System and their vessel MV Liahona is now back in operation.

To help service routes affected after the detainment of Goundar Shipping Vessels, Interlink Shipping is now servicing routes to Kadavu, Patterson Shipping will service routes to Labasa, Savusavu,

and Taveuni while Briton Shipping will service routes to the Lomaiviti group.
