Goundar Shipping to get new vessel

September 10, 2012 5:09 am

Claims that local shipping operators are losing confidence in the shipping industry may just have been proven wrong with Goundar Shipping due to introduce another vessel to service the outer islands.

Goundar Shipping currently has the largest inter island ferry, the MV Lomaiviti Princess and its director George Goundar says they intend to bring in an even larger vessel.

“At the moment the Lomaiviti Princess is the largest ship operating under the Fiji flag, the new one we’re getting is a hundred and twenty meters long. We’ll be running a daily service into Taveuni, passengers and freight, that’s our aim and hopefully into Kadavu, we’ll expand into Kadavu and those are the areas that we’re looking into.”

Goundar says they have every confidence in Fiji’s shipping industry and believes if more vessels are brought in it will ease the strain especially during peak seasons.
