Good human resource policies a key to success

June 17, 2018 7:57 pm

The success and resilience of an organization depend on how strong and effective its human resource strategies and policies are.

Human Resources Institute President Kameli Batiweti says human resources must be independent in order to carry out its functions well.

He says successful organizations around the world including Fiji have a human resource strategy that’s separate from every other role.

“They are very successful because their human resources function is strong. The organisations that are not so successful is because their human resources are not strong and therefore if the organisation wants to be successful than there’s a correlation between success and having a strong human resource function.”

Batiweti says organizations that have good human resource policies must invest in their people in terms of exposure.

“For example, meet in Sydney, and all Asia Pacific meet in Sydney- that’s best practice, that’s investing in the human resources function. That’s what lacking in many organisation in Fiji 0 the exposure bit.”

International Labour Organization’s Director for Pacific Island Countries Donglin Li says organizations must also ensure they promote decent work.
