The plight of the Pacific needs to be highlighted more extensively by the global media.

This was the message delivered by Samoa’s Minister of Communications, Afamasaga Rico Tupai at the Asia Media Summit underway in Qingdao, China.

He says the recent pullout by the USA and its president Donald Trump from the Paris Agreement, makes the Pacific wonder if Trump even knows the dangers of climate change in the Pacific.

Tupai says the problems of the Pacific in particular the climate change issue, needs to be well publicized.

He adds most media worldwide are now focused on commercialization rather than going in depth with the issues such as those in the Pacific.

Giving examples of natural disasters such as Cyclone Winston and the Tsunami in Samoa, Tupai pleaded with participants of big nations to help the Pacific where they can through journalism.
