Getting Kava industry back on track

September 22, 2016 5:34 am

As Post TC Winston rehabilitation work continues, the Agriculture Ministry is focusing on implementing programmes to get the Kava industry back on track.

This was confirmed to FBC News by the Agriculture Permanent Secretary Jitendra Singh.

“Some of that will be to address the issue from the damages such as any disease concerns that we have, we will have to address that in the kava industry and then we will have this replanting programme. I think it is extremely important for farmers to understand that we want to have a very cautious approach in taking the industry forward rather that just rushing in just trying to grow this.”

Singh says it might take three to five years to get the industry to full capacity.
