The Electoral Commission and the Supervisor of Elections today handed over a joint report on the 2018 General Election to President, Jioji Konrote.

It is the final report of the Supervisor of Elections and the Multinational Observer Group.

Supervisor Mohammed Saneem says they’ve considered 16 broad areas and recommendations have been made for a consideration by the parliament.

“Some of these areas are generally from the report of the multinational observer group and we believe firmly that should parliament approve these recommendations we will be able to stabilize the electoral environment in Fiji.”

The Electoral Commission considered SOE’s report and deliberated that there is a need to spread the electoral activities over four years rather than leaving most of it to the election period.

The Commission believes this is necessary so that the Electoral process is seen to be happening throughout the cycle which is essentially a good international practice.
