Gender discrimination a challenge for women & girls

There are a number of women who abandon their careers in the field of science, technology, engineering and mathematics due to gender discrimination.

This was revealed by Minister for Women and Children, Mereseini Vuniwaqa who also highlights that in other cases – young girls face similar challenges as well.

Speaking at the STEM camp graduation in Suva, Vuniwaqa says in school – girls are discouraged from pursuing careers that include science, technology, engineering and math.

The Minister says that this should not be the case.

Meanwhile, thirty girls between the ages of 6 -13 years graduated from the first ever STEM camp.

The camp was funded by the Fiji Women’s Fund in partnership with the Australian government.

The week-long program saw 5 local female trainers teaching in the various subjects’.
