FWCC sets up more safe houses

The increasing cases of domestic violence towards women and girls have seen the Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre acquire two more properties as safe houses.

FWCC Coordinator Shamima Ali says that one facility will open in Labasa, the second in Ba.

Ali says that at the moment the facilities are being used in emergencies, however, they want it in full operation by the end of the year.

“We are awaiting the ethical standards of running shelters to be finalized and one that is done and develop to its fullest, these shelters one in Labasa and one in Ba they should be in operation at the end of the year”

Ali says women who were victims of abuse will be taken out of their abusive environment and cared for at the two new facilities.

She adds that a third facility will eventually be opened in the Suva area.
