Today is World Diabetes Day and an awareness campaign by the Petero Civoniceva Foundation helped collect funds to treat diabetics.

More than three hundred people turned up to Buckhurst Park in Suva to take part in the program and to make donations.

Health Minister Jone Usamate says Fiji needs more awareness programs as diabetes is a terrible disease affecting a lot of people.

“If we don’t watch out we could reach a stage where fifty percent of our population is diabetic.”

Thirty five percent of Fiji’s population is suffering from Diabetes.
