Fundraising warning

September 19, 2012 7:02 pm

The Education Ministry has reminded schools to get prior approval for any fundraising activities.

Permanent Secretary – Dr Brij Lal says parents should also be vigilant and report any activity which they believe isn’t sanctioned by the Ministry.

Any school can do fundraising; we are allowing one major fundraising per school per year, in order to qualify for that they must submit to us the budget for the current year. They must have submitted audited account and so forth, and once they have done that then we will give the approval depending on why the fundraising is taking place.

Dr Lal says fundraisers shouldn’t interfere with lessons and student should not be forced to take part if they don’t wish to do so.

No school should put any target on student. Fundraising is a voluntary thing and it should not be made compulsory on students to raise certain amounts.

Schools have been warned that if they don’t follow procedures they will lose their permit to hold fundraising activities.
