In an effort to provide better and safe services to the public, the Taxi operators in the Northern Division is urging the government for an increase in taxi fares.
The members of the Fiji Taxi Association Labasa Branch are claiming the cost of running taxi business has increased due to rising fuel, oil and spare part prices.
Fiji Taxi Association Labasa Branch president, Mahendra Singh says the last fare increase was done in November, 2011.
“The Labasa Taxi Association and its members humble request to the government of the day please to consider the increase of taxi fares an additional of 10 cents per 100m distance.”
Meanwhile the members also claim they are still falling victims of illegal operations.
The Association members in Labasa also requested for proper taxi stands as currently there are limited designated places and drivers have been picking jobs from anywhere they want.
