FSC working with landowners to plant more sugarcane

Two villages in the Northern division have signed an agreement with the Fiji Sugar Corporation to give their land for sugar cane farming.

FSC’s Chief Operating Officer, Navin Chandra, says the Nasarowaqa Village and Yavusa Drakaniwai in Nasarowaqa in Labasa entered this joint venture last Thursday.

Chandra says the FSC has inspected the field and land preparation to commence planting is now underway.

“There are a number of ventures that we have already commenced. For example in Tunalia in Nadi, land has been vacant for the last 10-12 years. We have got about 60 hectares that is available in that area and planting will commence later this year.”

Chandra says 470 acres of flat land around the country has been made available to FSC, of which 180 acres will be cultivated in the first phase of this year.

FSC is also working with landowners in Lomawai, Sigatoka to acquire vacant land.
