The Fiji Sugar Corporation is urging farmers to start planting cane for next season.

Chief operating officer, Navin Chandra says many areas in the cane belt sector have received sufficient rain in the past two days.

Chandra says farmers can also apply for the cane planting grant.

“We are very fortunate with the Governments Cane Planting Grant that we have been given which is about $2000 per hectare for land preparation and planting. So I would encourage farmers to convert their fallow land and plant more cane as soon as possible.”

Chandra says farmers need to use good quality seed during planting.

Farmers can contact the FSC sector office for assistance on accessing the grant.
