The Fiji Sugar Corporation has had a meeting with the Indian Ministry of External Affairs.

FSC Executive Chair Abdul Khan says he and his team updated the Secretary of External Affairs on the proposed co-generation project to be installed at Rarawai Sugar Mill in Ba.

Khan says the FSC has already secured a loan of $150 million from the Indian government through the Exim Bank of India.

He says the delegation also met with some of the suppliers and other project experts who will be here to help set up the co-generation plant.

Work on the co-generation project is expected to start in the first quarter of 2016.

It will allow the FSC to use waste materials from its mills to produce electricity to run the mill and possibly sell energy to the Fiji Electricity Authority.
