FSC to provide start up packs

July 10, 2014 7:03 pm

The Fiji Sugar Corporation (FSC) intends to provide startup packages for people interested in taking up employment within the sugar industry.

FSC executive chairman Abdul Khan said the idea is to attract interested individuals and families to take up the offer to start cane farming.

He said they are experiencing growth in the industry however, they are far from the true potential which is harvesting 4 million tonnes of cane per season.

As part of the programme, FSC will provide farmers with a house, startup equipment and land through the iTaukei Land Trust Board which will be leased to the farmer.

Khan said this way the farmer will be able to get a piece of land and at the same time contribute towards his family.

He added the programme is similar to that of the Government scholarships for those interested in agricultural farming.
