FSC sets sight on local market

The Fiji Sugar Corporation will have to set its focus on our local market before exporting overseas.

The FSC has identified new markets in the Asian region because its dependence on a customer in Europe expires this September.

FSC Chief Executive Graham Clark says we have to sell our own sugar that we produce.

“When I first got here, the question I asked is how much sugar do we supply in the local market? The answer I got was whatever left over is sent which is crazy. We need to look after our own market first. There is a huge market here that we didn’t even know exists.”

Clark stated the FSC has received enquiries from markets around the world wanting to buy Fiji sugar again.

However, he says the FSC still needs to cater for the local market first before exporting.

He also says supplying sugar to the tourism industry and small secondary shops locally should be prioritized.

FSC launched its Strategic Plan yesterday in Lautoka.

The focus of the board and management is to commercialize the FSC again.
