The Fiji Sugar Corporation has resumed sugar shipment to the Chinese market recently by sending its second consignment for this year.
FSC chief executive Graham Clark says there is a lot of exciting opportunities in those markets and they are hoping to expand their Asian customer base.
Clark says 20,000 tonnes of sugar for Chinese market’s first consignment were loaded from Labasa’s Malau Port.
He adds the last time Fiji exported sugar to China was decades ago, so it had been great to re-enter that market.
Clark says the FSC previously shipped 35,000 tonnes of sugar for the United Kingdom and European markets which included 20,000 tonnes of Fairtrade-certified sugar for Europe and the remaining 15,000 tonnes for the UK.
He says a total of five shipments are scheduled between September and March 2019.
