The Fiji Sugar Corporation is optimistic of exporting sugar to Singapore this year.

FSC’s chief operating officer Navin Chandra says FSC is working with brokers in Singapore to look at opportunities for export into their market.

He says they are also working on exporting sugar to Japan.

Chandra says FSC has already secured two shipments for this month, to China and one to the United Kingdom.

“Whatever sugar we can make, there will be markets that we will be able to fulfill and we are also seeing some strong signs of local and also regional sales in the South Pacific market which is closer where we are able to save freight as well.”

Chandra says FSC is trying to get the best price for Fiji’s sugar by looking at non-traditional markets and negotiating on the market price.
