The Fiji Sugar Corporation is formulating a plan and making financial arrangements to refurbish and upgrade the sugar mills.

Speaking at the annual general meeting earlier this week Board chair, Vishnu Mohan, said the Corporation is aiming to further mechanize harvesting and improve cane transportation to the mills.

He says this will be done by refurbishing the long neglected rail network system.

New cage bins for cane transport will also be installed.

Mohan says FSC will begin ordering and purchasing mechanical harvesters, tractors and new trucks by early next year.

These equipment will be deployed by the FSC to help cane farmers reduce cost of cane farming.

Mohan says the FSC will scale up the manufacture of new cage bins and it will be made available to farmers by next year.
