Chandra says this has become a worry as large fields with green cane is being burnt, causing a loss.
“When large portions of fields are burnt, it’s very hard to get the area harvested in a very short time and the growers then end up paying the penalty of receiving stand over cane which is not what we want.”
According to FSC 17 percent of cane supplied to the mills are burnt cane.
