July 21, 2018 4:40 am

People can now enjoy free Wifi at Ratu Sukuna Park in Suva for one hour every day.

While launching the Wifi hotspot today, Acting Prime Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says this is to help people get access to technology.

“We want our young people to come and use their mobile phones here to be able to chat with each other, to be able to download material, to be able to upload material and to create safe spaces for people to be able to access technology.”

Sayed-Khaiyum says that this will also be implemented in My Suva Park and in other areas around the country as well.

Ministry of Information Director Isaac Lal says that they don’t have any threshold on capacity meaning that a lot of people can access the internet all at once.

$40 million has been allocated to the ICT sector for increased speed in public Wifi hotspots in Fiji.

This allocation will also allow for the installation of free high-speed Wifi hot spots for all Fiji National University campuses.
