The free medicine scheme which was introduced by the government in 2014 is being reviewed.

Fiji Pharmaceutical Society’s President Reshnika Sen says this is being done to remove and add the required medicines under the scheme.

Sen says by doing this, worthwhile and better medical services could be made available to those who qualify under the scheme.

“We are talking to as many people as possible. We are also talking to get doctors involved as well. Private practitioners as well as government doctors so that we can work out a way which will work for everyone.”

Sen says anyone with an income below $20, 000 qualifies for the scheme and those who are already on social welfare are by default able to access the free medicine as well.

142 medicines are currently listed under the scheme with more than 30,000 Fijians benefiting.
