Attorney General and Education Minister, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum highlighted the free education initiatives in Fiji during the 20th annual Conference of Commonwealth Education Ministers.
Sayed-Khaiyum also told the participants that the Fijian constitution highlights the need of expanding access to high and quality education.
“Every country has its own aspirations, priorities and game plan for the education of its students and for its young people.”
Sayed-Khaiyum also highlighted the important role teacher’s play in the education sector.
“The teachers are pivotal in delivering quality education. How do we manage them, how do we administer them, how do we give them the same level of attention, do we give them the same level of accessibility to services and indeed technology that will actually help them deliver their services.”
The outcomes of the conference will be presented at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in London in April.
The conference ends on Friday.
