FRCS volunteers commended for their hard work

The Fiji Red Cross volunteers are the first to respond to emergencies and are the front line ambassadors of the organisation.

This was highlighted by FRCS Director General, Filipe Nainoca during the commemoration of the International Volunteers Day yesterday.

Nainoca commended the volunteers for their hard work and sacrifice.

He adds that volunteers are a valuable and integral part of their team who deserve recognition and respect for their selfless service.

Often they are members of affected communities themselves but selflessly reach out to those affected in times of need.

FRCS says it was through volunteers that the society is able to reach out to the most vulnerable and this was evident during Tropical Cyclone Winston in 2016.

He adds their volunteers are well trained on being neutral and impartial in the delivery of all their services.

Volunteer Service is one of the seven fundamental principles of the Red Cross Movement and the training of the volunteers continues to be a focus of the society.

The Society is part of the largest humanitarian network in the world with over 12 million volunteers and staff in 191 countries.
