The Fiji Roads Authority is working with the Land Transport Authority to limit the load of the vehicles as overloading continues to be a major concern for the Authority.

In the first six months of this year, two hundred and eighty two drivers were issued Traffic Infringement Notices for overloading in excess of one thousand kilograms.

FRA Chief Executive, Jonathan Moore is expected to be meet with the Land Transport Authority this week to look at ways to curb the issue of overloading.

“There is a penalty scheme in place and there is weighbridges in place and enforced, I’d like to see more obviously because my roads are being damaged but I think the LTA is going in the right direction, they are actually actively dealing with the problem.”

Over two million dollars has been issued in fines to various companies for overloading since January.

The fixed penalty for overloading is $1,000 per tonne in excess of 1000 kg and the second cause of action is to offload the trucks.
