FRA to install speed humps soon

August 13, 2018 9:58 pm

The Fiji Roads Authority is working on installing speed humps at appropriate sites.

But this depends on resources and site investigation to look at daily traffic volume on a particular road.

Chief executive, Jonathan Moore says this includes the frequency of speeding incidents, the risk to road users in the absence of speed humps, existing pedestrian facilities and the percentage of vehicles exceeding the speed limit on a daily basis.

Moore says speed humps outside schools, civic centres and on the entryway to villages on major highways are some of the priority areas.

However, he says speed humps are not the instant cure for all traffic issues as in most cases other infrastructure measures such as signs and line markings are the most appropriate and effective treatments.
